Mikey Inglis
DJ
Music Style: All aspects of Underground
House music. Disco / Funk and Hip-Hop
Mikey Inglis started DJ’ing at around 16yrs old after
a mate gave him a lesson on his turntables. Within a year
he went to DJ in the bars in his local town at a ripe 17yrs
old. He was then introduced to Colin Cook and Ross
Paterson who where two older DJ’s, playing
in the bars around town and they took him under their wing.
As a result, he ended up sharing a flat with Ross
Paterson and was given access to a back-catalogue of hundreds
of house records. He was probably sole responsible for his
education in house music. The end result was the development
of a house head!
At around the same time Colin Cook invited Mikey
Inglis along to a night he co-promoted with Gareth Sommerville
called ‘Ultragroove’ which enabled him to see
the very best of DJ’s from all over the world. Listening
to Kenny Carpenter, Joey Negro, Heller and Farley etc. and
seeing the reaction from the crowded club only confirmed further
the desire to be up there playing out the music he loved.
From that point on, Mikey Inglis held down a residency
in a local club (to this day) and still regularly
plays at various local bars in his town in Scotland. Mikey
Inglis also went on to play at ‘Essential’
at the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh with Martin
Valentine and Kevin Jones.
In the following years Mikey Inglis played
at parties in Glasgow and Nottingham and a few underground
outdoor parties in Scotland. These local club parties
would have him warming up for the likes of Michael Kilkie,
Colin Tevendale, Tom Wilson (rip.) Zammo and Ade Fenton and
Gareth Sommerville.
In the last few years Mikey Inglis has set up his
own website which he now co-owns with Andy Stirling and has
mixes from such DJ’s as Dimtri from Paris, Larry Heard,
Kenny Dope, etc.
It was from working on the site that Mikey met Fleur
Woolford (Zoo Management, Masters at Work) who managed to
get an interview with Kenny Dope at an ‘Audio Deluxe’
party at Edinburgh’s Honeycomb club. From there on he
was introduced to Craig Smith (Audio Deluxe, Soul Heaven)
Mikey Inglis invited Craig to play at a local party and in
return, Craig then asked Mikey to play at Audio in Edinburgh.
This was the first time he had played at such a big party
and was very proud of the fact that he would play in a club
that had been quoted from Kenny Dope and Blaze as one of their
favourites!
Again, Mikey’s website opened doors; he had
done a few mixes for Internet radio Station ‘Tokyma.fm’
which has resulted in a residency for the ‘Kind Groovy’
radio show.
Finally, Mikey was asked to play
at the club where it all started, ‘Ultragroove’
which had proceeded to become a very successful house night
in the U.K. over the last six years. Thanks to the belief of Gareth Sommerville in a youth policy of DJ’s, Mikey Inglis has played there twice already and no doubt he will again in 2008.
Playing both Audio and Ultragroove has been a surprise
for him as these two parties are without a doubt the most
prolific in Edinburgh. Mikey Inglis is very grateful
to have done them, which is the fundamental of why he continues
to play and want to progress further… Mikey
Inglis just wait’s to play good music at good parties!
