DJ Farina
Music
Style: Dark / Deep / Tech / Tribal / to Dirty, Electro
House.
DJ
Farina is definitely a star of the not-so-distant
future. With her unique style and attitude to match, she would
most certainly compliment any dj booth, in any venue.
Coming
from an extremely musical family, meant farina always had
an exceptionally high understanding of music. Every member
of her family had a natural singing ability and she was n
exception. Farina was an alto in her school choir, for over
4 ½ years. At the tender age of 13, whilst working
in a London hairdressers, Farina was exposed to the sound
of Naked Music and so into all things house began. Regularly
being playfully told off by her boss, for staring intriguingly
at the dj, who supplied a sound track for the salon, meant
it was obvious there was a very keen interest being displayed.
Another major influence, came from her older sister, London
based house producer and vocalist-Scarpi. Although being into
many genres of music, Dj Farina (by which, she was soon to
be known) found herself being strangely drawn more and more
towards the scene, with its many different qualities and facets.
Along
the way, Farina began to have an increased understanding of
what she liked and what she didn’t like. She was quick
to realise that a dj with a big name did not necessarily make
a good dj and this disappointed her. It was at this moment
that she asked her friend, by the name of Daniel Anthony to
teach her the forgotten art of djing. Her progress was astounding
and after playing at an “open decks” night,
just eight months later, dj Farina was offered the opportunity
to play at one of London’s top nightclubs, Rouge (Now
known as SIN).
Much
later down the line, she secured a slot on one of the capital’s
leading underground dance stations, Unknown 90.2 FM. After
a spell here, she developed and grew, as a Dj, which is when
she decided to move on to greener pastures, by joining
London’s Passion FM. The move was inspired
by the need to reach the whole of London and the surrounding
areas – something Unknown did not do. Although one of
the newest members of the team, she has established
herself as essentially a deep House Dj, with a very distinct
style. Incorporating afro-infused beats, aswell as dark techy
elements means her sets, whether on the radio, or in a club,
have a definite sense of maturity. Since launching
her attack on the world, dj Farina has played alongside
world famous acts, such as Felix B (one half of chart topping
duo, Basement Jaxx) and Dj Yoda, as well as wowing crowds
on the beaches of Lake Malawi, in Africa. After
an impressive performance, she has been invited to play again,
next year. This is something she is very much looking forward
to.
“
Malawi is an amazing place, with people being some of the
friendliest I have ever encountered. So much of the music
I play and love, has a strong afro-centric feel. From the
percussive sounds, to the powerful native singing. This is
why I feel honoured to be playing in the warm heart of Africa
next year. Also, all the funds raised by the event go towards
helping some of the poorest children in the world, so go get
your tickets now!”
