DJ Anthea

Music Style: Deep house, through to tougher, darker, Electronic Funky beats.

Anthea’s DJ career started in 1997. It has seen her spin all over London and Europe including The Ministry of Sound, The Egg, The End and AKA, Pacha ( London) , Café De Paris, Opium (Ukraine), Lasal (Barcelona), Titos’ (Majorca), Seven Apples (Pisa), Underground (Ibizia), UMM (Naples), Nephetiti (Sweden) Faith (London) alongside the likes of Phil Asher, Terry Farley, Dr Bob Jones, Roy The Roach, Bill Brewster, David Duriez, Mr C, Derrick Carter, Tom Middleton, Sister Bliss, Lofty( Chillifunk) Dan Ghenacia, Rob Mello and Bert Bevans, playing the full spectrum of sets, from warm up to peak time, bars and lounges.

Anthea’s musical influences come from soul, funk and disco. She can be heard spinning deep house, through to tougher, darker, electronic funky beats, depending on the when and where she’s playing.

Anthea’s talents have seen her move into the television arena, taking part and reaching the final of ITV’s Joy Of Decks documentary competition 2003. This saw 400 hopeful UK DJ’s battle it out for a chance to win a year’s management contract and 8 gigs within the Smirnoff Ice tour, over the course of 6 episodes. Anthea made it to the final 4 where she was paired up with a mentor, widely respected pioneer in UK dance music, Mr C. This programme has gained her a huge following and massive support from the viewers.

Anthea was assistant manager at Flying Records London Soho store. She could be found behind the counter enthusiastically selling tunes and helping visiting Dj’s and music lovers expand their record collections! Flying had been at the forefront of London’s dance scene since 1991 and was the stable to many of today’s famous producer/DJs including Lofty and Dr Bob Jones (Chillifunk) X-Press 2’s Rocky & Ashley Beedle, Clive Henry of Peace Division, Dean Thatcher (West London Deep) Brandon Block and so on. Anthea can now be found helping out in the office at Chillifunk Records, the label dedicated to “Soulful Music For Funky People” and the airwaves on House FM. She now works at Blackmarket Records London’s biggest independent record shop.

Mr C quoted recently… ‘This girl has really got the groove. Anthea delivers nice, long drawn out mixes, with great work of the EQ’s creating that third – track in the mix. Her subtlety oozes soul and sophistication that most of her male counterparts can only wish for. Her music selection is deep and funky, yet totally cutting edge. Many female Dj’s use their sex as a gimmic, not Anthea, this girl’s the genuine article. Watch the rise and rise of a true future star”.
